Problem: How can we use technology and student insight to create a functional and engaging library experience in a school without a librarian?
Summary
In response to the absence of a building librarian, a student at Mill Creek Campus partnered with the ELA Department to develop a functional, tech-based library checkout system and enhance the student experience in the school’s small library space. The project involved collaboration with district librarians, administration, office staff, and support personnel. The student used an iPad app to scan and digitally log all existing library books, making them more accessible for both teachers and students. Although the initial vision included fully redesigning the library’s look and organization, only about half of that component was completed due to budget and ordering challenges. However, the digital checkout system was successfully implemented, streamlining library access across the building.
