Recycling in School- Learning to Help the Environment

« Back to Client Connected Projects

Project Attributes

School: Maple Elementary School/Smithville

Class: Essential Skills

Instructor: Isabella Mesa

Client: Missouri Organic Recycling

Problem: How we can implement recycling at our school and benefit the environment?

Students learned about recycling, composting, upcycling, and how these things impact the environment. They learned from Missouri Organic Recycling and through research to make future connections and implement recycling collections at school.

The students were very open to learning new things and when it dealt with eventually getting to put their hands in the dirt, they were very motivated to do the research. I wish I would have anticipated how hard some connections would be to make. Some places just do not have the time to give for reaching back out and foster those connections that would propel the project forward. It is completely understandable, just was not anticipated.
