School: Staley High School

Class: Medical Interventions

Instructor: Michelle Lawrence

Client: Midwest Transplant Network

Problem: How can we encourage more teenagers to sign up to be an organ donor when they get their driver’s licenses?

Nichole from the Midwest Transplant Network presented information to the classes on organ and tissue donation and current statistics on donations and needs. Students then worked in groups to design materials to attract young donors.

It is difficult to do this on a large scale with only 1 client – I had 5 sections of students, so would have been good to have several projects for them to choose from. Also, it was difficult to fit a CCP into a high-level science course without sacrificing some of the course objectives.

Learning Standards

  • Explain that the organ/tissue donor and recipient must have compatible blood and tissue types
