Project Attributes

School: Liberty North High School

Class: Child Growth & Development

Instructor: Wendy Turner

Client: Liberty ECC

Problem: How can we reimagine existing school spaces to better serve the needs of students, staff, and the wider community?

Summary

Students participated in a hands-on design challenge at the ECC campus during a non-student day, allowing exclusive access to the facility. In small teams, they identified areas in need of innovation and proposed thoughtful redesigns to improve functionality, engagement, or aesthetics. Working closely with LPS staff and industry professionals, students conducted research, planned layouts, and created detailed proposals. The project emphasized teamwork, creativity, and real-world problem solving while offering authentic experience in space planning and design thinking.

Takeaways

Due to snow days, it would have been beneficial to have more time dedicated to this project. Students finished the project in one month, but it could have easily been finished with more work time in two months.

Advice
