Problem: How can we make our district calendar relevant and meaningful?
Summary of Project
Students meet with Dr. Sanders (Assistant Superintendent of Equity and Student Services) to listen to her problem. She stated the need for an accurate, meaningful, community-centered whole district calendar where all cultures from our city are represented. She reached out to us to include celebrations in Spanish-speaking countries as a representation of our growing Hispanic population.
Key Takeaways or Advice
We worked on this project on Fridays as an extension of our unit about living spaces. They created products related to celebrations in Spanish-speaking countries. Next time, I will connect with organizations in Kansas City that can offer a closer look at the topic.
